The PPG Plaza’s ice skating rink in downtown Pittsburgh is open for business. Beginning in late November and remaining open through early March, PPG Place invites you to join them on the rink, which was recently expanded in 2015 and is now even bigger than the rink at Rockefeller Center in New York City. The rink is positioned around a 60-foot Christmas tree that stands proudly at its center and is sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
The rink is open to visitors seven days a week, including holidays, and has 700 pairs of skates on-hand for those who’d like to rent them. In addition to regular hours of operation, the rink is also hosting several special events this season that is definitely worth checking out. On Saturdays in December, celebrate the season with their Skate With Santa event, taking place from 2 to 4 in the afternoon. After the new year, the rink will host Tuesday family nights, where one children’s admission is free with each adult admission purchased. The rink also offers lunchtime monthly passes for regulars, as well as group rates and parties for special events, birthdays, or large gatherings. If you’re a beginner, don’t be intimidated. PPG Place offers skating lessons for all ages and ability levels so you can fine tune your skills on the ice with the help of a professional.
Regular admission begins at $9 for children under 12, seniors over 50, and military members. Admission for adults costs $10, and skate rentals cost just $4. This fun, affordable, festive activity is perfect for skaters of all ages, and a great opportunity to get a group of friends, family, or co-workers together for an afternoon downtown. If you work up an appetite on the rink, warm up with a delicious bite to eat at Molinaro Ristorante or a cozy cup of hot chocolate from Crazy Mocha.
Be sure to head over to the rink’s website to stay up to date on their events schedule, special holiday hours, and discounted rates. See you on the ice this winter!
